What age do you need to purchase a plane ticket for a child?

check with the individual carrier, but usually it is any child over 2  and any under 2 if you want them to have their own seat.  so if they are under 2, and you dont have ticket, then you may have to hold them on your lap for the entire trip, and that could be hard to do...  but check with the individual carrier .  they all have their own rules.   Good luck

For fare purposes...

    * an infant is defined as a passenger under 2 years of age

    * a child is defined as a passenger 2-11 years of age.

You need a ticket for your daughter.

Children who are under the age of two can generally travel free on domestic flights and pay 10% of the fare for international flights - if the child travels in the parent's lap and does not occupy a seat. A ticket is required if the child will occupy a seat.

Once they reach two years, a ticket is required and they are entitled to a seat. The airline can require you to show proof of your daughter's age.
