I am curious to know what other parent's opinions are regarding this. At what age do you think it is appropriate for a girl to start using shiny, colored or sparkly lip gloss?

  1. My daughters have had shiny lip balm whever their lips are dry whatever their age like vaseline or burt bees. But I'd say the proper lip gloss about 13, and never ever glittery!

  2. 13/14

  3. Well I'm not a parent, but I have a little sister that is 6. She started playing dress up when she was 3 and my mom always let her wear lipstick, etc. My mom does not allow her to wear it to school or to church if its really dark and overwhelming. However, if it's a clear gloss or even like light colors or sparkles, mom thinks its ok. It's normal for a little girl to want to wear makeup but I guess just don't let her go to the extreme. And you know how big of an influence that Hannah Montana character is!! I know that I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was around 12 or 13.

  4. young girls can use lip gloss like lip smackers until they get to be around 12.5 - 13 years old, then i would say they can start expirimenting with real make up.

  5. I think chapstick is always acceptable, flavored or non. Lip gloss, however, is a kind of makeup. I wouldn't let my kid use it until she turned 13.

  6. Well i think it comes down to where they want to wear it. i am not keen on the idea of my little 2 yr old girl wearing it, but when she does want to play dress up and make up at home then thats fine, however she will not be wearing it in public until she is 12 onwards, and then only tiny amounts. but it is natural for little girls to want to copy mummy, and hey at home thats cute.

  7. Seriously?  Its lip gloss?  Quite different than lip stick?  My own daughter and niece love to wear lip gloss cuz it makes them feel grown up and their 2 & 3.  I'm really confused as to why you want opinions on this, it doesn't sound serious, or life threatening.  Now if my daughter wanted to wear blush or eyeshadow or lipSTICK, that would be a different story.  But what's the harm in lip gloss??

  8. Hey Polar Bear! (Nanook=polar bear in Inupiaq).

As soon as she wants to, it's not makeup in my mind and to me essentially lip balm.  Now, red lipstick is something else since we all know that can get into clothes and onto furniture, and often contains lead....  Lipstick sort of fits the category of makeup to me, and is in another category.

  9. Well, all i know is my cousin's 1 year old wears lip gloss (even got some for her birthday) b/c she likes to mimic her mommy.

As far as grade schoolers go, I would think maybe 5th or 6th grade?

  10. 16 is the right age IMO

  11. My mom gave me chapsticks when I was 8. Ever since ive been hooked on it. I hate lipstick. so i use chapstick and lipglosses now. Im 18 now lol...and ive only wore lipstick maybe 2 times.

  12. Little girls often want to do the things their mothers do.  I don't have much of a problem with lip gloss.  My daughter has had "lipstick" (Disney princess chap sticks) since she was about 2.  She is now 14 and I have been allowing her to wear makeup (in moderation) since 13.  I buy it for her so I control the shades.  If I feel she's wearing it inappropriately she loses the privilege.

  13. A girly girl is old enough to wear lip gloss as young as 12,as long as she doesn't wear heavy eye make up,and dress older than her Years.

  14. Chapstick is better.

In elementary girls had their shiney pink crappy lip gloss. I don't think they should have it until like 14-16 area cuz you don't want them to grow up too fast or look trashy. I consider lipgloss make-up.But that's my opinion, and I'm not a parent or anything. But I find it sad when parents their kids grow up too fast.

  15. I let my daughter (3yrs old ) where lipgloss in the when she's playing but I think a good age is 12/13 for shiny and glitter but the one's that have color and resemble lipstick about 15/16

  16. I started wearing it in about 6th grade.

but its only lip gloss I don't think its that big of a deal.

as long as its a very subtle color with maybe a few sparkles.

    at least its not eyeliner.

  17. who cares!....but umm i would say chap stick is fine or blistec . But if the child must then i would say 6th grade or maybe 7th but depends on where they are going all that shiny stuff isn't necessary and its sticky show them that less is always better

  18. Well my little girl is only five and she has the little Bonnie Bell lip gloss and Bath and Body Works lip gloss.  Of course, it's clear ad it just smells and tastes yummy. She only puts it on when she finds it in her room so it's not like she is 'wearing' make-up.

As far as the real stuff  for the purpose of trying to be grown, I would think clear lip gloss at 11 or 12.  Colored at 13 or 14.

  19. I wouldn't let my kid wear it until 13 or 14. Any younger than that just portrays the wrong message, if you know what I mean.

  20. I started putting on lipgloss at ten as long as its not redish or dark it fine.

  21. I would let my daugther wear lipgloss at 10/11 because to me it's not that big of a deal - colored would be a little different, but clear or sparkly is okay with me.

  22. I would say at 13 or 14.

  23. I have been wearing it since I was like 2!!

  24. I don't think lip gloss will hurt anyone, so whenever they are old enough not to suck on it.

  25. Age 13

  26. Whenever they want......? What it to you exactly if they want to look pretty? Around the age of 10.

  27. I say just plain lip gloss like 7 and that's only for like special occasions like a wedding or recital at school. But for the tinted or sparkly kind I would wait til they are about 12 or 13...but that's all no other kind of make up.
