I'm not sure if you mean to go on to kindergarten, but it all depends on the individual child.  As a preschool teacher, I've seen 4-year olds who are ready for kindergarted but 5-year olds who need more time.  Typically, Pre-K is 3-5 year olds, but their birthday in relation to school cut-offs makes a difference, too.  In my preschool, I consider 30 months-5 years pre-K, and 5+ as school-age.  Of course, every child is different, but I use them as rough guidelines.  Hope this helps :)
