  1. It depends on your insurance. Some cover until the child is 18. Check with your human resources department or call your health insurance provider.

  2. the company i work for will cover a dependent from ages 19-25 if a full time student.

they verify student status once a year, around the birthday of the dependent.

the two questions i would ask your insurance company would be: what is the age bracket for students and when do they verify. depending on their answers, you might be able to verify him as a student and ride it out another year without them verifying again. also, depending on the type of school they are attending, the units necessary to qualify vary (could be lower) so, perhaps, your student would be up for going to one or two classes as opposed to a full load?

  3. Do't know specifically about NYS but most health insurers will only cover a child until his 18th birthday if he is not enrolled in school full time. The assumption is that if he is not disabled, that he should be working full time and can get his own coverage.

  4. Usually it's 18 if they're no longer students. If he's a student, it's more like 22 or 23.

Talk to your H.R. person at work or if you have an employee hotline, check it out.

  5. Normally age 18, some carriers will go longer if the child is financially supported by you.

  6. 18 or when he graduates college.
