I bought a picnic basket from the 1940's at a yard sale. The lady said it was antique. Is this true? And if I bought other things at at yard sales, what year could I consider it being antique if I were to buy it. I like antiques.

  1. If it's as old as your grandmother, then it's antique.

  2. That Lady Lied to you!!!! If it is 100 years or older than the current date, it is antique. Many people lie about antiques. And Estate Sales are better.

  3. I hope you didn't pay too much for it as it's only a collectible right now.  100 years or more for an antique.

  4. Generally speaking.... furniture is considered antique at 50 years

and other things like glassware at 100 years.

Maybe your basket isn't an antique yet, but that doesn't mean it isn't collectable.   Do a little research.
