some more things, it is école primaire ( primary school ) from 6 to 10. It has 5 different levels : from the start :

- CP cours primaire

- CE1 cours élémentaire 1st year

- CE2 cours élémentaire 2nd year

- CM1 cours moyen 1st year

- CM2 cours moyen 2nd year

Another thing you should be aware of is that age cut-off for starting school is the calendar year, not the fall (as it is in many jurisdictions in the US) . Children start CP (Cours Prepatoire), which is the equivalent of first grade, the fall of the calendar year they turn 6.
