What age range is considered to be "middle aged"?

My husband and I disagree on this. I say someone in their 40's is middle aged and he says it should start at 30!!! What do you think?

When I hit the big five o , a buddy of mine said hey man, "How does it feel to be middle aged"  I gave it about a 2 second thought and replied to him " you as _ _ _ le, how many people do you know that are 100 years old" You and hubby should compromise and call it 35.

to me middle aged is like 35-45 so i think yous are kind of both right lol

The US Census lists middle age as including both the age categories 35 to 44 and 45 to 54

However, developmental psychologist Erik Erikson stated that middle adulthood is between 40 and 65.
