What age range should a flower girl be in?

I am trying to pick out my flower girl and I wasn't sure what age range I should keep in mind while looking.

I have a cousin who is 12, I'm thinking that may be too old, but I'm not sure.

  1. I think it's futile to have a flower girl based on age/height only. I think the role should be filled by a well-behaved child who is capable of following instructions.

My friend got lucky with her flower girl - another friend's 4 year old who was very poorly behaved at the rehearsal, but because we teamed her up with the junior bridesmaid for the ceremony, she ended up staying rooted to the spot she was supposed to stand in so she could impress the older girl.

  2. I think that's too old. I think like 8 or 9 should be the cut off. My niece that is 11, is going to be a Jr. Bridesmaid in my wedding next month. And my 7 year old niece is going to be the flower girl.

  3. I think the cut off is 4-10 . . . but whatever, if a 12 year old is your only option and the one you really want to be the flower girl, then s***w it, have her do it! It you're wedding!

  4. I think a flowergirl is usually between the ages of 5 and 8.

12 does seem a little old for a flowergirl.. that's more the age of a junior bridesmaid.

  5. Age 2 - 10.

  6. Well you want old enough to be able to walk down alone and brave enough also to do so

Not too old that it would look silly- maybe 5-8 being the best range

  7. Hi.  Yes, 12 is definitely too old...make her a junior bridesmaid.

Flower girls are generally between 4-8, although some go with 3-10.

  8. A flower girl should look sweet, cute and almost cherub like, I would say under the age of 6 years old would look adorable, your 12 year old may look a little too mature for the kind of role.

  9. From previous weddings I have intended, I would say 3-10, with 11-12 being if A) absolutely desperate or B) they look under 10.

12 is more bridesmaid/ junior bridesmaid position.

  10. I think anything between about 4 and maybe up to 8 at the oldest, I htink around 6 is a nice flower girl age, personally I htink 12 is too old, but it's your wedding : ) Maybe she could bet the guest book girl a jr. bridesmaid instead : )

  11. Between 3 (assuming they are good with following directions and well behaved) and about 10.  The younger they are the cuter it is, IMO, but you don't want to go with a child who isn't mature enough yet to be trusted to go down the aisle over a slightly older child either.

If you want to include her, consider making her a Junior Bridesmaid, see if your hubby to be has anyone her age he might consider to be the Junior Groomsmen and let them walk first after the flower girl and before the bridal party.

  12. I think 12 is junior bridesmaid material.  10 is the cutoff for flower girls IMHO.  if they're over a certain height it don't look right.
