I feel as though me mentioning that I have a parking lot is implying that I live in a bad neighborhood. Is this true?

  1. Well, it depends how old she is now and where you live. Also how far away it is and how much you trust her. Like, if you live in a small town that doesn't have much going on/that many bad things happening, maybe wait until she's about 9 or 10. If it's like Los Angeles or New York City, then that's a different story-I'd wait a year or two more.

  2. UM DO YOU LIVE IN A BAD AREA... I RECOMEND IF YU DO ... DONT LET HER OUT UNTILL SHE IS OLD ENUF AND IF ITS A NICE AREA..... YU SHOULD SATRT MAKING HER TAKING IT OUT NOW..

  3. i would say somewhere around 10-12 maybe she is scared of the dark so have her take it out before night time that way she won't be scared to take it out.

  4. Probably around 7 or 8.

  5. 11

  6. 8

  7. My brother started taking it out to the curb at 11. There's always and incentive for them if they have an allowance. If it's far away it's going to depend on how safe you think the area is.

  8. There are too many psychos out there.  I'd take it out with her, or give her other chores to do in the house where its safer.

  9. as soon as she's capable of carrying the garbage

  10. If it's not too heavy, eight or nine. Then as she gets up in age, she can do things like putting away the dishes, folding clothes, washing them, and helping clean the house.

  11. 11 or 12

  12. 7 or 8, but you need to watch her from the window. If you can't see it from there, then you need to go with her.

  13. I started going around the corner to my friends house and stuff like that at nine.  I'd say start her at 8 and watch her until she is ten.  Who is going to harm a little girl taking out the trash in a parking lot?

  14. I depends how safe the neighborhood is and how heavy your trash can is... I would say typically 7 or 8.

  15. If having her take out the garbage is something that you feel would start teaching her responsibility right now, but you are concerned about her safety, go along with her.  Having your company will not diminish the lesson you are trying to teach her.  Also, it gives you another precious few minutes of one-one-one time with her where you have each others' undivided attention.

  16. I already have my 4 year old trained to put a new trashbag in the can when we take the garbage out, poor kid actually enjoys it and wishes he could take the trash out (little does he know he will most likely dispise doing it in a few years hehe).  As soon as he is physically able to take the garbage out, he will graduate to that chore as well.

  17. It depends on the child. She needs to be mature enough and responsible to look both ways before crossing the street. She also needs to be physically able to handle the bag of trash (and if you have stairs think about her ability to handle the trash bag on the stairs). As soon as these things are met, and you are still able to have full view of her while she is doing it...go for it.

  18. No later than 3.

  19. As old as you feel is safe for your nieghborhood. I mean really, I kid can understand how to take out trash probably at 5 or 6. But I don't think they'd really be strong enough, and you don't want your 5-6 year old going out in the middle of the night to throw that last bit of trash.

So I'd say when you trust your neighborhood enough that your daughter isn't going to get snatched up on the way to the dumpster. So probably about 10-12 depending on her ability and understanding of how to protect herself and run away.

  20. 7 or 8. The need to learn responsibility.

  21. As soon as she can pick the bag up.  It's never to early to teach them to help.  The sooner the better, so that they get used to it and don't whine to much when they are asked to do so when they are older. Just check on her and make sure she is safe, if it is too far away.

  22. What do you mean parking lot?? Don't you even have a driveway?? Well if it's pretty safe I'd say 10. Just make sure you keep your eyes on her at all times, especially if you're living in a parking lot with creepo stalkers...

  23. maybe about age 7or 8. as long as it light out and u keep an eye on her she should b fine. i mean u need to teach her about responsibilites at a young age or its gonna b hard if u wait till she's older

  24. Ahh..

11-12. Just old enough that she's able to carry it and she can handle her self safely alone outside your house.

EDIT: It's actually better if they start younger a 8 or 9 so they can learn it as their responsibility and chore. If they're to old or preteens they'll start thinking they should be paid for helping.

  25. I started when I was 12...Now I'm 17 and my 12 year old sister does it...I get to do everything else in the house. Yaay me. Just make sure she doesnt throw the garbage out when its too dark

  26. If you're in a good area, maybe 12. But make sure she's tall enough to open it if its kept closed or behind a gate. Make sure she only does it in daylight.

  27. As soon as she can walk.  No, just do it whenever the trash needs to be taken out, and you're not doing it `cause the dishes need to be attended to.  Age 8. It's quite debate-able.  But if you live in a bad neighborhood, do it yourself.

  28. Make sure she can at least fend for herself a little bit.  If you live in a bad neighborhood, then make sure she's like 11 at least.  Watch her from your window.  Not only to make sure she actually does take out the garbage, but that she doesn't get hurt.

  29. 4th or 5th grade is a good time to start.

  30. whenever you think shes responsible and careful enough to keep an eye on the cars and stay to the sides. you could also watch her while she's taking the garbage out. she could  even wear a bright shirt and not dark clothes so cars can see her. i started taking garbage out as early as 8.

  31. 8, my kids take it out.
