I have a 15 year old boy who is taking 'food technology' at school for his GCSEs. When I go out should he be allowed to cook at home?

  1. I'm pretty sure I was cooking at home long before I was 15. When I was 10 or so, my parents would let me and my brother take turns making dinner (with their supervision, of course) And by 12 or 13 I was able to use the oven and stove on my own.

  2. At 15, he is certainly more than capable of cooking without you around to supervise.

  3. Of course--if he's responsible and knows what to do in case of emergency (get him a timer so he doesn't forget his food), he can cook at home alone.

  5. Whenever they learn how to cook, turn the stove on and off, the oven on and off, and do their own dishes, they can cook as much as they want.

  6. since this poor boy was babied all these years by you then No he shouldn't be left alone to cook. you haven't taught him the basics of everyday living and he should ALREADY know how to prepare basic foods. Do your son a favor and start teaching him more now! One day when u die he will be left alone in your house you left him and he might burn it down due to ignorance...and PLEASE teach him how to clean and do laundry unless that is something else you do for him...remember he MUST GROW UP SOMETIMES and you need to CUT THE APRON STRINGS NOW!

  7. well id say sure because it doesn't really matter what age u r but it depends on how well u cook and if u can cook without injuring yourself in the process. if u trust your son enough then he should have no problem cooking if he has your support and maybe someday he can be your family cook. Good Luck!

  8. Yes sure.  The only restriction I would have is not frying anything.  That is dangerous.  But making pasta or sauting or whatever else is fine.  Surely he knows how to handle himself, especially since he is taking a class.

  9. I would say as long as he knows all about kitchen safety and what to do in case of emergency, like a kitchen fire, he's definitely old enough.  I think it's great that he has an interest in cooking. :)

  10. I was allowed to cook when I was 15, as soon as I could see over the pot on the back burner I was allowed to cook.  If he knows how to do it safely then I don't see why not...

  11. 6th grade... so about 12
