  1. Day one!  Control is the key so you need to gain control ASAP.  The sooner you can locate your pitches the sooner you will become a pitcher, not a thrower.  It really doesn't matter how old you are.

  2. The earlier, the better. Definitely start locating your pitches by high school baseball (specifically varsity). Unless your throwing in the 90's, you will not strike any body out throwing the ball down the middle or walking everyone. I made a living off those pitchers (3rd most hr's in NYC High school baseball)

  3. ASAP!

  4. I think locate your pitch is actually the second stage. The first thing to do is to fix your mechanics. Control is coming from a correct release point. If your mechanics have flaws, you will have neither control nor power.

Face the mirror or ask someone to correct your mechanics first and then try to do anything else.

  5. Listen to these guys.  Before you try to learn sliders and curves - learn to hit your spots.  Speed is great but good hitters can hit a 100 mph fastball if it's right down main street.  Also, learn to pitch away from a hitter's strength.  If he wants to pull, pitch outside.  Learn how to climb the ladder with fastballs.

    Have fun!
