She is my best friend (emily) but we both don't know what age emily should get her puppy at. I have two dogs and she adores them she has one that she loves but she wants two. She doesn't want her to young, old enough so she can be alone with her other dog she works in two months I think. And she wants her young enough to be "trainable". What age thanks!! In two months they will be alone for 6-7 hours and her mom would come in and let them out. She wants a golden retriever.

  1. 5 months old.

  2. Male / Female, and the far apart the age is the BEST combination.

  3. 8 Weeks

  4. I would say 1yr. At that point they're kind of past the puppy stage but still very trainable. Just remember as lovable as retrievers are they are also that hyper and destructive, they don't mean to be it's just all that pent up energy. lol

  5. puppies can't really hold their bladders until about 16 weeks. 3-4 months is when a puppy is the most sociable, and it's easier to teach them basic commands that will stick.

  6. Get an adult from the humane society.

  7. After being "fixed" the puppy should have all it shots, and I mean everyone the vet recommends, it will save you tons of money in the long run of the dog, plus it's the humane thing to do.  Your supposed to love this thing like it was and extension of yourself, so money is no object, right?  Then it should be litter trained, and after 9-12 weeks you should then look at puppy's and if you can't leave those precious eyes, then you know that's the right puppy for you.

  8. 10-12 weeks is what I recommend for anyone to get a puppy. 8 weeks is minimum, and 4-6 weeks if there is something wrong with mama and she just can't handle puppies.

You should tell your friend - Emily - that she needs to get a dog that fits her life style. A golden retriever might be too much dog for her right now. Too much energy, fur, responsibilities, etc if she's going to school (which I'm guessing, since it's 6-7 hours). Also, she should be aware that the dog will probably listen to her mom more than her, since her mom will be taking care of it a good portion of the day. :)
