  1. mine let go when they were ready but sometimes if were out in a strange place the younger son who is ten will hold on tight so when it feels right for them they will let you know

  2. im daughter is 8 nearly 9 and she wont hold my hand now and she hasnt done so for about a year she says its not cool she wont even hold it when she crosses the road so i have to hold her sleeve what am trying to say is in due course they will probably stop doing it

  3. 11-12 depends if they know road safety and if there mature enough.

    hope this helped good luck.

  4. it should stop when the child is uncomfortable with it

  5. 12 IS too old...I mean you shouldn't need to hold hands past 8yo, even when jay-walking across the street with a parent. If the child can keep up, and has a good head on their shoulders, as well as a bit of maturity, they shouldn't hold hands with anyone at that point.

  6. i think if yor son is comfortable with it, and you are comfortable with it, then why worry?

  7. If he wants to hold your hand, let him.  He'll soon let you know when he gets bored with it.

  8. If they are holding hands cause you are insisting on it and they don't want to... then it is time to sit down and discuss that.  but if they are willing participants - then there is no reason to stop.

i have 3 kids and I don't make the oldest two hold my hands unless we are in a major crowd.. like they can walk around walmart next to me without having to hold me.  They are 5 & 8.  but that is mainly cause my 2 year old is the one that I really have to watch.  He is almost 3 and in the "i want to walk" stge so actually the oldest often holds his hand.  She is super responsible and that helps me get my shopping done.

  9. I am 47 my Mom is 86, we still hold hands, so there is no age to stop, only stop when one or the other is no longer around.  God Bless.

  10. My 10 year old will still hold my hand to cross certain roads near us but takes a step away from me if its only a minor road (silently telling me "no way" i guess!!!) I think if your son is happy to hold your hand then carry on but be wary if his school mates are near, a 12 year old holding his mums hand could be picked on. My son wont hold mine as we approach the school...he says it would be seriously uncool!! Ah well, he still kisses me goodbye so I guess its not too bad

  11. some parents would love their children  to be closer to them like this, my older children hold my hands or loop their arm through mine (boy almost 13 and girl 11), if they are somewhere where they feel uncomfy ie.; cos other kids around then they may not and thats fine ,i think if your child is happy and comfortable to hold your hand then you should be proud as before you know it he may not. you should feel happy and proud to share that closeness . if people don`t like it then its probally cos they don`t share that same bond you have with your children don`t let other people change the way you are with your children they grow so quickly..

  12. 80 since my hands should be some where else then

  13. If they like holding your hand, then let them.  It's no-one else's business so don't stop them.  All too soon they'll stop doing it of their own accord so enjoy it while you can.  Once they are teenagers you'll miss this closeness.

  14. if hes ok with it who cares!

  15. I still hold my mums hand and I'm 19.

I like being close to her.  No age is too old to be close to someone you love.

  16. sad.

  17. i still hold my mums hand when i see her (which is not very often, as we live on the other side of the world) and im 23...

  18. I hold my mum's hand if we're in a foreign country at night. I don't know why it's only then, I guess I am particular! It's fine for your kids to hold your hands!

    ('',)

  19. They'll stop when they don't think it's "cool" to hold your hand anymore. Until then, enjoy it! I dont' think 12 is too old to still hold your parents hand, they're still little kids & if they still enjoy that comfort, then why not?!

  20. I hope my son will still hold my hand when he's 12! I think you're lucky your kids want to be that close to you. I love holding my kids' hands and I know my heart will break a little when they think they are too old. Who cares what other people say? Thank God your kids don't think of you a total embarassment and enjoy their childhood as long as they will let you.

  21. if your children are ok with it then it's fine.

  22. i think you should stop when they want to. its all about how secure they are, if they don't feel safe without holding your hand, then they need you. and trust me someday they'll really really want to hold your hand again, so for both of your sacks, just make it when there ready.

  23. if your both ok with it, its no one else"s business..

there"s nothing wrong with holding your children"s hand regardless of their age

  24. You should stop when they want you to stop.  If they want to hold your hand they still have some need to do that, and you are filling that need by doing it.  Good for you.

My daughter won't hold my hand going into school anymore, but there are much older kids going past us who are holding mum's hand.  It's fine.  You mustn't listen to other people about things like that, they cause regrets.  You know instinctively what is right for you and yours.
