  1. Start training him now and he should be out of diapers at 2 and a half years-no later than 3 years..But like you said, every child is different..Good ways to train them- we just sit them on the potty and let them hang out for about a minute and even if they don't go-we have them wipe and flush and wash their hands..Some kids sing their ABC's and get off the potty when they are done...

  2. I started my son at 18 mths. and he is now 2 1/2. I am finding out that starting young helps, the older they get, the more you may stuggle because they have obviously gotten used to going in a diaper. (I teach pre-school, so seeing it too I've learned) We did the pull ups, but because they still may feel like a diaper, they will use it like a diaper. Finally I just put him in Big Boy underwear with Elmo, Spiderman, and Diego on them. I would tell him, you need to go in your potty. Don't get Elmo (and so on) wet or dirty. Yes at first the accidents are a pain, but he didn't like the way it felt to be wet and dirty (it has to feel different in underwear since it all becomes wet, unlike diapers that absorb it) so he started using his potty. It took about 3 wks. and he was potty trained. Yes he still had accidents, but instead of everyday, it was maybe once or twice in a week. I also kept his potty in the living room so he could see it, and keep him in nothing but his underwear around the house so he could go w/out struggling with pants. Being out in public, just take him about every 30 min. or so until he can tell you "potty". I hope this helps you. Good luck! Also, when you are at home, keep asking him if he needs to go potty. No matter what he says, put him on it. We also bought a book of stickers, and everytime  he went, he got rewarded with a sticker.

  3. well usually it is easier when the child is talking because they can tell when they have to go but a child is usually potty trained when ready (my cousin was not ready until age of 3), it is also good to offer him rewards when he uses the potty.....

  4. Usually if they are waking up with dry diapers then you know that they are at least able to hold if for long periods.  Try it for a day or two, if he gets frustrated back off and wait 3 more months.

  5. When he's ready, which will probably be somewhere between 2 and 4 years old. 16 months is FAR too young to even be thinking about it.

  6. now is the perfect time. I never used pull-ups, it gives them a false security - they know they can GO and not get wet. Put him in big boy underwear. When he goes and he feels the wet and dirties the big boy pants he will want to use the potty. All 3 of my kids were completly potty trained by 15 months doing it that way. Good luck!

Also with the boys - they like to aim for the cherrios!

  7. Okay this is a huge question and you will get tons of different answers, so my said thought would be, when you are ready to train him.  My thought is that if your ready then more then likely your child is ready.  I was ready when my two children turned 13mths and I haven't had any problems but patience is the key, it truly, truly is...just don't expect your lil one to be completely trained until about 3 if you start early the better :)
