What airlines will allow me to travel with my dog from the UK to the USA?

I'm hoping to travel to Tucson Arizona in the next couple of months and want to take my dog with me. She's already had a rabies shot and has a pet passport (PETS) so there's no problem there.

It's an average 14 hour flight from the UK to the first stop in the USA. I've looked at the American Airlines website and they won't carry pets on flights longer than 12 hours.

Does anyone know airlines that will? I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experiences that have made such a trip

  1. ask other aemerican airlines

  2. I am surprised.  I did not think that there were any flights from the UK to any airport in the continental US that were longer that 11 hours.  The trip is long because of the layover time.  The way to do it is to break the trip up in the US, such as fly direct to Chicago and then connect the next day to Tucson.

  3. Whoever told you it's 14 hours has misinformed you.  Even London to LA is not that long.

Are you perhaps doing the timezone conversions wrong?

Personally I wouldn't fly with my dogs - I've heard too many stories about pets dying in the holds of aircraft, especially in hot weather.  Stub-nosed dogs like pugs and bulldogs are also especially susceptible, which is why Air Canada, for instance, now refuses to take some breeds.

You might consider UK to NYC or Boston, and then on to Tucson.  Each flight should only be approx 6 hours.
