What alarm system can I get for my home and not have it hooked up to a service?

I have had several bad experiences with break ins and being robbed at gunpoint which have not made me paranoid. I thought that the second time it happened to me surely it would not happen again...what are the chances. For me chances seem to be reall GREAT.

Anyways, I would like to install an alarm system on my house but I don't really want it hooked up to a local alarm company. I want something that will sound off (like any home alarm system) and scare the intruders away and of course to notify me. My assumption is that there are probably many different systems out there and as I keep reading online I am just running into alarm services.

Anyone have any experience with an alarm system that they installed?

  1. You can probably buy their parts and install urself, or pay abit more to get a quality job. Then just not buy their calling package. Our system still works, but its no longer connected with Brinks.

Oh, and I helped him install system, plus I have done several hundred others, but mine were all comercial ones. It was very easy and took about 5 hours to install.

  2. Take a look at X 10 on the Internet.  I use a lot of their products.  Compare their prices too, with those from Radio Shack.

  3. my friend has one of them alarm systems, you can go to hardware stores and get them, just call up an alarm company. Or you could get a dog

  4. They have door alars out there that you drill on and when the magnet is seperated from the other one it sounds an alarm.
