  1. It depends on your occupation.  I am a graphic designer and sometimes work from home so I can write off my computer, internet, office equipment, software, art supplies, mileage, etc.

Depends on what you got going in your life.  If you have a business, a lot of things can be written off.  If you have investments, other things can be written off.  If you have enough itemizable deductions, you can write those off instead of the standard deductions.  Those are things like property tax, state income tax, personal property tax, mortgage interest, employee expenses if you have a lot of them, medical expenses if you have a very lot of them.  Ask your tax professional next time you have your taxes done, since he/she will know what kinds of things you are into that could be written off.
