I live in the US and I'm seriously thinking about moving to the Bahamas. What all would I need to do?

I figured I would need a working visa, and then I would be able to find some type of job. Is this all I would need?

Anyone have helpful advise that lives in the Bahamas, or has lived there.

  1. Not that simple.

The majority of jobs in the bahamas are for bahamians only.  In order to get a job.. you employer has to prove to the gov't that they cannot get a qualified bahamian to do the work...

In that case, you're employer would apply for a work permint which could cost anywhere from $1000 - $17,000 depending on the position.

You would then be allowed to work for a specified period of time (usually one year) .. then be sent back to the US.

You would not qualify for immigration consideration.

If you want to MOVE to the bahamas.. you need to invest serious money ($500,000 in Nassau/Freeport and $300,000 in the out island) for limited immigration status.

If it were easy.. the entire US population would be living in Paradise.

Immigration is cracking down on foreigners living here illegally.

Best to find a US territory.. like Puerto Rico or the USVI.. no immigration/ work permit issues..
