  1. That depends on how you want to get married, and wether or not you want a formal wedding celebration.  If you just want to get married then all you have to do is call your city courthouse and ask what is required in your state.

    If you want a wedding celebration then you should call your city courthouse, ask what is required in your state, and start coming up with a game plan for the following:

    Location (reception and wedding)

    guest list

    invitations

    decorations

    photography

    flowers

    wedding attire

    wedding transportation

    officiant

    music

    food & beverages

    Etc. Etc. Etc.

    Either way I wish you the best of luck!

  2. Anyone could go on and on with everything. I am getting married in September and I started with theknot.com.....It is awesome! It counts down your days until marriage and it has a huge checklist of all the things to do from getting your gown to engraving your rings....It has a budgeter and everything. You can even do a wedding page. Check it out.

    If you are just starting, I would say the first things to do would be pick your wedding party and the place to have it. Good luck!

  3. The following are the only things that are necessary in order to get married:

    * You and your significant other.

    * The proper paperwork.

    * Someone to marry you (priest, rabbi, Justice of the Peace, Elvis impersonator).

    * A witness or two.

    That's it.

    Everything else is fluff (or what we like to refer to as wedding planning).  theknot.com is a good place to start for the actual wedding planning, if you want to do a wedding and not just get married.

  4. Be in love

    Be loyal

    Be ready for lifetime commitment

    Be ready for sharing bills, bank accounts, etc

    Save a lot of money for a wedding

    Make sure your familys get along

    Make sure you ae ready in general

    Make sure you two are compatible

    Plan the wedding ahead of time and give yourself a lot of time in between for changes

    Good luck!

  5. You have to be the legal age to be married in the area you're in.

    You have to not be currently married.

    You have to provide proof of identification, usually a birth certificate, etc.

    Check with the location you're thinking about getting married.  Just do a search for "obtaining a marriage license" and your state.

    Most places require a witness or two.  Other than that, getting someone to perform the ceremony who is legally authorized is the only other thing I can think of.  Some locales require a blood test, others don't.

    The wedding party, the reception and all of the rest is icing or headache, depending on how you feel about it.
