Question:

What all do you put in a buffet hutch?

I just bought my first ever buffet hutch and am so excited about it! Thing is, I don't know what to put in it. I can see that there's areas for flat wear, stem wear, and plates. There are shelves on the top and bottom, 2 drawers (I'm guessing napkins and flat wear there). There's an area below the drawers that appears to be something to hold bottles, but that can't be right, can it?

So other than the items I have listed, what DO you put into a buffet hutch??

Thanks!

  1. It is called a buffet hutch for a reason. Nowadays, people use them for all sorts of things but I insist on using mine as a buffet hutch. As in, a buffet. You store tablecloths, silverware, napkins, napkin rings, buffet servers, buffet dishes (these are those smaller plates and teacups used for buffets), and there's usually room enough for a few wine bottles, wine glasses, old-fashioneds, martini and champagne stemware. The silverware should also include various forks/utensils used for things such as shrimp, oysters, cheeses and the like. The buffet should also be able to accomodate most of the breakfast table. Feel free to place your silver serving dishes on the top for easy access. Not to mention the showing-off part ;-) Congratulations! Now, people will know what to get you for your birthday and for Christmas. Good luck on getting them to leave, though. Here's a hint. Begin clearing away the appertifs from the buffet table...

  2. You seem to have everything. I think you could put wine bottles in there also.
