  1. lol just so you know I found the other answers abnormal and a little scary for a parent to be teaching that kind of thing so early. But each to their own.

My daughter can count to thirty and count up to ten on her fingers :D (she was very proud of herself heh)

She can spell small words like cat, dog, cow et cetera :D and knows all her colours. She has always been good with animals and animal sounds which of course is adorable :D

Don't push your child to be an over achiever, just encourage them gently you don't want some poor super genius kid who burns out at 12 or to be a stage parent pushing your kid to be the next spelling bee champion (you have seen those parents right? The ones screaming at their kids and making them cry)

  2. My son is already reading some words. He knows thirty counries on the world map and can point and say them. He knows 75% of the U.S. and knows some of Canada. He knows every instrument that is used in the orchestra, he can hear symphony music and just by hearing an instrument he can identify what is being played. He holds six sentences at once. He can count to twenty five, and also count in spanish. Knows all of his letters and numbers. He knows about half of the planets.

He wants to learn, I am not forcing it. Before he eats he will always asking me "Mommy, what shape is this bread" when I make him a folded sandwhich he will say "The bread was a triangle now its a reectangle. He knows all of his shapes including octagon and cylinder.

He turned two in January. Hope this helps.

Edit:I am assuming that "Jodie" is referring to my answer. As I have said previously, I do NOT force my child to learn anything he asks me questions and I answer them. He is constantly wanting to learn. I don't sit with him all day long and command that he do those things. He is very intelligent. And as any parent would be, I am very proud of both of my children even if they weren't advanced. And I am not a scary mom, not sure where Jodie is getting that from. All I did was just answer your question. And I hoped that I helped somehow.

  3. My oldest could read easy chapter books like the Magic Treehouse books when she was 3 1/2, and could also add single-digit numbers and even figure out the answer to things like if I eat half the cake and you eat a quarter, how much is left for Dad.

My second-oldest could also do simple addition at that age and could sound out songs by ear on the piano.  He didn't read until he was four, but really took off with his reading as soon as he started.

My third's child's strengths were different and not so much academic, but she could draw a really good picture at 3 1/2, with lots of details.  She was also "advanced" in that she was extremely independent for her age, and could easily do things like get herself dressed and completely ready for preschool in the morning, set the table without guidance, etc.

My fourth isn't 3 1/2 yet.  Can't wait to see what he does! I'm sure he'll have his own strengths and challenges....

  4. I don't know if my daughter is "advanced" but she can count to 20, know all capital and lower case letters, all the letter sounds, is starting to sound out words, she knows her phone number and address...

  5. what the heck is an ADVANCED 3 1/2 year old ???   Children learn different things at different times.. I do not believe at that age kids are really smarter than one another.

BTW  I am a mother of 3 year old triplet boys, even though they are always together they have all learned different things at different times. I don't know if they are advanced or not because I believe kids should be kids too..right now they are more concerned about killing ants in the yard than numbers...and thats ok.
