What all is involved and what do I need to worry about. Sponsors? Royalties? Costs of being on the air? Playing uncopywrited music? Playing dirty music? Getting guest appearances?

  1. Radiodaddy has a good source of information regarding this and can also be an excellent source for free voiceovers.  Http://www.radiodaddy.com

  2. All that and more depending on your job title. You'll also have to study, find time for other extra-curricular stuff and all the other things that go with the college experience.

You might want to check the website for the Bayliss Foundation. They offer scholarships and internships to college juniors, but it's best to start preparing during your sophomore or freshman year.

    www.baylissfoundation.org

There's also some websites that could help you prepare:

This one has some interesting info on the home page, but I wouldn't pay for a subscription just yet; http://www.frontiernet.net/~ibs/ibshome....

    Also try:

    en.allexperts.com/q/Radio-Industry-249...

    and

    http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/howtoapply.h...

Search around the web, there's all sorts of stuff available with a simple search on Google or yahoo.

    Good Luck!

  3. Sounding like you could be on any FM dial is a good start.  Too many are in college radio *sounding* like they won't go any further than that.  Be professional in everything you do.  You will get noticed.

The rest will be covered by your PD and MD, and they'll let you know what's acceptable.
