I want to get braces and want to know what exactly will be done if and when I schedule a consultation at a dental office? What all goes down from the first visit to the final visit?

  1. At the consultation, in most cases you sit down with your orthodontist and he looks at your teeth and decides what's going to be done. He tells you how long your going to need to wear the braces and probably will set up a plan to pay for the braces. I'm pretty sure braces cost about 2000 dollars. But, you only pay a certain amount each time you visit to get your braces tuned up. The consultation is really nothing, but they usually set up an appointment to get the annoying spacers, and the week after that, you go in to get your braces, which takes a good amount of time, and some pain the next day. Most people go back to the orthodontist every 6-8 weeks to get things changed with your braces such as a power chain or rubber bands. I still have braces and don't know what it's like to get them off, but I'm sure it's probably the best part.

    good luck with your braces!

  2. They'll probably just take a look in your mouth, take some x-rays and then map out a course of treatment. They will then schedule you for impressions and then they will begin the process from there.

  3. Metal braces are about 2000-4000 dollars unless you have insurance of medicaid. They'll set up a payment plan with you.

It takes about 2-3 hours to put them on depending who's working on you. It doesn't really hurt when they put them on, but it just feels tight, and you have to get used to them. they will hurt a bit the next day.

First they will take X-rays and check your mouth. If you have cavities that will also hold more time to your appointment.

They clean your mouth and check to see if you need any teeth pulled out before you get the braces. (I'm going to get 4 teeth pulled out today because of that). They tell you to come back so they can pull them out OR they do it right there at the same time. .

Then they send this paper to get approved by the state to see if you qualify for braces.

some peoples teeth are different and they need to wear a retainer first before they get braces. Then you go and get those lovely spacers. And you have to wear those for a week so they can make space for your bands. Then in a week or two you go get your braces.
