What all requirements do you have to have to becme a foster parent in oklahoma.

just generally what do they look for? my hubby and i have been married for 7 years we have one 4 year old son. we are thinking abt trying to become foster parents in a couple of years we plan to purchase a home after working on a few credit issues from when we first got married, as far as being good people we will qualify to be foster parents but im worried abt out r age, income ect.... im 25 right now and he is 28 but like i said it will be in a couple of years. could someone give me any pointers on what they will look at to get us approved, i have always wanted to do this iand i think it will be a blessing for these kids in need, yes i know it may be a lil difficult for our son at first and fr us too but i know we can do it :) thanks in advance everyone

be at least 21 years of age and preferably no more than 55 years older than the child considered for placement;

if married, be married one year or more.  Applicants may be married, single, legally separated or divorced;

have the ability to manage personal and household financial needs without relying on the foster care reimbursement;

fulfill the OKDHS policy on background investigations for all household members 13 years and older by completion of criminal history background checks; there must also be no history of alleged or confirmed child abuse, neglect or sexual abuse;

have a working vehicle;

provide appropriate sleeping arrangements for each child placed;

be in good physical and mental health;

provide references;

complete all required training in a timely manner;

not smoke in the home or automobile when the child is present;

comply with OKDHS rules on discipline;

be able to work as part of a team with social workers and biological parents.
