  1. The SAT 1 includes mathematics, critical reading, and writing.

The math is not your basic math. They wont just ask you what 5 x 2 is, they will most likely give you a word problem and you would have to derive the formula from there. The critical reading usually has about 6-8 questions of vocabulary and the rest is reading passages to answer the rest of the questions. Writing includes an essay which you write on the given prompt and that accounts for about 70% of your writing grade, and the rest is sentence completion. You can go to www.collegeboard.com and take practice questions and check the difficulty yourself. I would highly recommend looking at a practice book such as Princeton Review and looking at their diagnostic tests.

  2. The SAT includes 3 critical reading sections, 3 math sections, 3 writing sections (including the essay section), and 1 experimental section, which can be anyone of these 3. It's about a 3.5 hour test but usually you get started at 8:30 and leave around 12:30. I've heard it both ways...I think it's harder than the ACT, but some people I know think the opposite. It just depends on your type of thinking...SAT is more reasoning and test-taking strategies and ACT is more actual concepts. The critical reading section was my hardest section-it includes 5-8 fill-in-the-blank vocab questions, sometimes followed by 2 short passages with 2 questions each, and then followed by 2 long passages, 1 compare/contrast, or 1 long passage followed by 8-10 questions each. The math was the easiest for me--It concentrates on algebra I and geometry the most, but it does have algebra II, and rarely some trig. The writing (well...the essay is self-explanatory) is fine...you choose which is grammatically incorrect in sentences, and correct paragraphs. I made a 650 in c.r., a 760 in math, and 690 in writing--you judge for yourself.

    Hope this helps.
