  1. bring layers of clothing because our weather is unpredictable and the temperature swings up and down, also because you'll be here through the cold winter months ... so I'd suggest vests, T-shirts which can be worn on their own in the summer or as an underneath layer when it's colder, shirts both short sleeved and long sleeved, sweatshirts or fleeces or similar which can be worn over one two or three underneath layers ... you'll also need some very warm outer clothing like a woollen, fleece or waterproof coat ... a waterproof coat whether of the lightweight or heavyweight variety is a must, and so is an umbrella ... socks both cotton type and heavy woollen type ... people do wear sandals in the summer but for winter you'll need either good quality trainers or leather shoes ... if you have any outfitters near you that kit people out for trekking (for instance in the Himalayas) then it's worth seeing if they've got any really warm coats, you'll only need one of them and they are very expensive over here, also if you're from a hot part of India long-johns (long trousers made out of knitted T-shirt material which you wear under normal trousers or jeans) are worth a thought as they would help to keep you warm ... clothing is probably more expensive over here than in India and although it's probably worthwhile bringing a fair amount with you I wouldn't overdo it ... just make sure you don't go for bright colours, which look great in the sunshine but would look very out of place here, especially in the winter here everyone tends to go for quite dull colours like black, grey, dark blue etc

  2. Pack a big variety of simple clothing that you for sure will wear, dont bring anything you don't wear on a regular basis (thats just a waste of space). The weather there is super unpredictable so you will want to always be wearing many layers. Comfortable shoes and an umbrella, will also be very helpful.

When going out in the UK (London especially) people dress up a little more than in the US, so some nice shirts and shoes if you plan to go out on the town.

Remember you are not going to the moon and you can buy whatever you need there, when I went I waited and bought most of my shampoo, soap, etc there so as not to waste luggage space, things are more expensive there of course, but not by that much when it comes to those kinds of things.

Also remember to leave plenty of space in your luggage for souveniers or things you buy, you will be shocked at how much you accumulate and how much it sucks to pay the overweight baggage fee on the way home!

    Good Luck!
