What aohter substances rather than thinner will dissolve paint>?

If you're talking about a small area or trying to get paint off your skin, use an essential oil. I use lavender oil to get the sticky off from price stickers or labels and if I leave it on too long, it will eat the paint or varnish off. Orange or other citrus oil works faster but I wouldn't put it on my skin.

If you mean paint that has already dried:  "Goof Off" from the hardware store.

And are you talking about oil-based or water-based paint?
