What alternatives are there to a heat mat?

Question

Hey, I'm currently preparing to home a Bearded Dragon and have just bought a 4ft vivarium. The thing is though that the bottom of the Vivarium is wooden and I presume to put a heat mat underneath it wouldn't make a difference (Wood is an insulator).

So I was wondering is there any alternatives to a heat mat, so I can keep the tank warm at night? Or is there a way I could put a heat mat on the inside?

Our Beard has ceramic heat lights on to keep his temp where it should be, but the flooring we use is ceramic or stone tiles.  These heat up nicely for him to lay on and are very very easy clean up, we just pull them out and wash them off. Hope this helps :)

a night light will mess up their sleeping patterns. as long as your house doesn't get to cold they'll be fine. 70-75 is good for night. check out beautiful dragons.com. that has lots of good info. i use a heat lamp for their basking site and the uvb florescent. night in my house doesn't get to cold so i don't worry about it. even in the winter, if they hibernate they need it a little cooler and i've even been told i could put them on the floor to help cool it down more for them. and their basking light should only be on for 8-10 hours a day at a lower temp as well.

if you get a ceramic heat lamp it will be ideal for night time heat as they do not give off any glow or light like normal heat bulbs, fitted with a thermostat it will give a constant background heat and not exceed the correct temp

A heat lamp on a timer. And be sure there is a place it can get out of the heat, if it feels its had enough.

you can buy heat mats which are sticky, or not, for vivarium just drill a hole in the back about one inch or two up from the floor,take wires out of plug and push though hole and rewire and then just cover mat over with what ever you use,  any other problems please get back to me if you wish  moondancer             (this is what i have done)
