My paternal grandfather is African American and my paternal grandmother is Japanese.

My maternal grandmother is half African American and Native American and my maternal grandfather is Japanese.

What the heck am I? Lol I've always been curious.

MY first advice is to NOT ATTEMPT "percentage"... using fractions is much more understandable.  Work with the idea that you are...

1/2  of each parent

1/4 of each grandparent

1/8th of each gr grandparent

you listed each grandparent, so you have

1/4 African American

1/4  Japanese

1/4th Japanese

1/8th African American

1/8th Native American

those are the fractions of each of the 4 grandparents.  You can ADD now,, because some are the same.  Adding all fractions and reducing

1/2 Japanese

3/8ths African American

1/8th  Native American

if you want to convert that to percentage/decimals, you can.

Looks like roughly 50% Japanese, about 12% Native American and about 37% African American.  (You'll notice that only adds up to 99% so obviously there are some .5 percentages in there.)
