Question:

What am I doing wrong?!?!

Hi there,

I'm just a little upset & depressed because I really actually did think that we would've conceived in July. It's been months now where nothing happened, but I almost had myself convinced that things actually worked this past month! I started my period on July 6th, it ended about the 11th... but now I just started again a couple days ago, July 31st.

What are we doing wrong here, and why isn't anything happening?? I know sometimes it can take months of "trying," etc., but this is really getting depressing... pathetic, actually!

So here we go again, I guess... but this time, is there anything that anyone can advise me to do?? Also, from my period that just started on the 31st, WHEN would be the appropriate days to try?? I'm not too clear on this whole "ovulating" thing...

Any advice or words of wisdom would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks so much for your answers, ahead of time!!

Extremely frustrated...

  1. I know it's frustrating and depressing to wait and then get your period.  I've been in your shoes before.  You are right, it can take a long time to conceive for some couples, a year or more.  So just be patient.

See if this helps clear up your question about ovulation:

An average woman's cycle is 28 days.  Which means it is 28 days between the start of her periods.  Ovulation usually occurs at the midpoint of the cycle. A 28 day cycle would have ovulation around the 14th day after you first start your period.  Some women's cycles may be 30 days or more.  So, they would still ovulate midway between periods.  It may be the 15th or 16th day and so on.

If a woman has irregular periods--periods that aren't every 28 days or so. For example:  1 month it's 28 days, the next month is 35 days, then the next may be 40 days.   It makes it a little more difficult to pinpoint ovulation and become pregnant, because you don't know how the cycle will be for that particular month if it's never the same length each month consistently.

When ovulation occurs, one of the woman’s ovaries will release an egg, which will make its journey down the fallopian tube over a period of about 24 hours. Within this 24 hour time frame is the optimum window opportunity for conception, but there are other variables. For instance, an egg will survive in the fallopian tubes for up to 2 days, so if intercourse takes place up to 2 days following ovulation, conception can still occur. Also, if intercourse has occurred prior to ovulation, conception is still possible because sperm can loiter in the fallopian tubes for 2 to 3 days, meaning that once the egg is released, it could already have a sperm waiting for it.

  2. I'm going through then same thing and yes it gets depressing, but I said that I'm not going to let this stress me out. i haven't never ovulating, that is what concerning me the most. But on 8/25/08 I'm going to the fertitilty doctor o I'm hoping that this will help me. take care and wish u the best.

  3. you should try about 12-15 days after the first day of your last period i read thats when most women are the most fertile.

  4. try buying the home ovulation tests....I bought them to make sure I WAS ovulating, you start checking X amount of days after your period (depending on how many days are in your cycle)

I don't know how often you are having s*x, try to limit it to every other day. If you do it too much the counts are lower!

    GOOD LUCK!

  5. Have s*x 2 weeks after the first day of your last period, that's when you're ovulating. You can of course have s*x up until that day and after if you'd like. My hubby and I tried that method and we got pregnant on the first try! Good luck to you!
