What am I entitled to if I get a divorce?

I have been married for 10yrs and have 2 small kids under 8yrs old. I was told that my husband has to pay the minimum which is approx. $800. + expenses etc...I was told 60% of his pay and this includes spousal support. (40%kids/20%me) does this make sense? Is it correct? I am in Ontario.

Pls help!!! I need to know if we will be O.K.

  1. It's too bad so many women look at marriage and divorce as "entitlement." If you were less concerned about yourself and focused on the marriage you might not get divorced.

  2. The percentages are not always the same it depends on your income, his income, and the reason for the divorce.

What you will get is the guilt of putting alot of stress on two young children who do not deserve it.  It shouldn't be about who gets what.

  3. It's different for everyone.  Go see a lawyer.  They will tell you.

I know that when my parents got divorced, my mom only got $500 a month for my brother (he was 15) and nothing for me since I 18 and not in school at the time.

  4. You get the goldmine he gets the shaft.

  5. For something this serious you really should be consulting with an attorney.

  6. Sorry to hear about the divorce but it depends on where u live it is different!

You need a lawyer for clarification!

  7. Sounds to me like you got the usual free ride from the courts.  If you're a guy, expect to get the shaft everytime that kids are involved.  The courts say "it's for the children".  No, it's a welfare check for the ex-wife is what it is.

  8. I hope he is not planning on remarrying someone with children.

My step father had to pay something similar that you listed and left us (me, as his step daughter and his new wife) with very money to live on even though my mom worked, my dad even paid above and beyond to help us out.

    Enjoy your typical free ride.
