I was suppose to start college yesterday, but I told them that I want to take a semester off so that I can really prepare myself and get a job to earn money, and get my license. I seriously think that I'm not ready for college yet, so why would they bother wastering money if I might fail?

My dad angrly told me today that I have to go and crash classes and the I need to go to college but he wont listen, I want to wait abit. Everything is going by so fast. I try talking to them but they wont listen to me at all. Its always school school school and I hate him for pushing me into a life style I dont want to go threw. What do I do? How can I avoid not being kicked out and not go to school for a while if my parents wont let me?

  1. you should start.

you put it off now, you'll put it off next semester, the next, and next...

i've seen it happen with friends.

look at it this way, the sooner you start, the sooner it is over with. that's the only thing that's gettin me thru college. i graduate this semester. h**l yess!

also it's not hard to work and go to school at the same time. lots of kids do it..................work, get ur license and get your college time done!!! you won't regret it!

  2. I'm having the same problem with my parents.

What we're doing is I'm going to work a well paying job (if you just work at mcdonald's it'll reflect your effort for finding a better job) for the fall quarter, kinda take a break, but when winter comes around I've agreed to go back, no questions asked.

Just make sure you make it clear you DO have intentions of going back.

  3. pack your things and enjoy your new career at mc donalds.

have a good life on those paychecks mr i'm not ready for school.

  4. They know and I know and other people know, what it is you do not know yet.

Let's say you get a job to make some money.

It's going to take you several years to work up that ladder to get better pay, when you could have just gone to school for 4 years and done it in the first place.

Higher education these days is required for most jobs that pay anything worth a squat. Most people who go to college also work fulltime to pay the bills.

YOu get financial aid for part of your schooling, you get a grant from the government, you take some loans that you don't have to pay back until a year after you graduate ($150 a month or so)... and you get your schooling done. You network and make new friends that you keep the rest of your life. These are connections that lead to new jobs, that take you to more places.

    You're thinking about the moment.

Your parents are doing the thinking for your future and they are gambling that you are bright enough to take this opportunity that many students would just kill for.

Suck it up, do the college scene, discover what you want to do in life, get a 20-30 hr a week job if thats what you want, I did it too, and you graduate with a pretty good job a few months later.

$15-20 an hour wage is not that big of a deal. Go to college.

Taking a semester off is a lie. You won't go back if you don't go now. You know it and I know it.

  5. parents always wont the best for there kids. where it is having a life that they never had or just to see them succeed in life. but if you write down what your goalies are and what it is that you hope to achieve from taking some time off you from school they may listen a little better. but be muncher about the situation, don't yell! talk to them as an adult. they will respect you a lot moor
