I'm graduating early and I'm so scared. I plan on going to college but I'm not sure if I want to live at home or not, where I'm going to live, where I'm going to college (here or away), what I'm going to major in or what I'm going to be after college.

I kind of want to move out a bit.

But don't know if I want to live in a dorm or what?

I don't know if I even want to go to school close to home or far away.

I'm pretty sure I want to major in Political Science but what do I do with that after college?

  1. It's a little scary, this new phase of your life you are entering.  It's very normal to be apprehensive and scared.  But, I recommend going away to school.  You will learn SO much about yourself that you would not otherwise do living at home.  College is a time of discovery, both academically and emotionally, and I feel that you would be doing yourself a great disservice by staying home with your parents.  It's time to go.  You can do it.

  2. I recommend living on campus if possible- living away from home is a big part of the college experience.

As for what you can do with political science, a major is not necessarily a vocational choice, it's something you find interesting enough to take a bunch of courses in. What you want to keep in mind is that any liberal arts major helps you learn how to learn and how to communicate clearly and effectively. Those skills can take you into a range of careers. So the key thing is to figure out what you most like to learn about. By following your interests, you may end up in a career that you didn't even know existed (or that doesn't yet exist).

  3. I would live out of home if you can at first to save money and start at a collage and see what things interest you.

  4. It's always best to stay where you are if you don't know where you're going. If you stay at home and try community college, you won't have committed a lot of money to something you're not sure of, and you'll get a better idea of what you want. You can always transfer later on if you do decide to go farther away. When the choice is not critical, don't hop into big decisions. Take one step at a time. You have time to figure it all out as you go.

  5. Try staying at home and going to your local community college first.  There's a wide variety of political jobs you can get with a Political Science major.
