I am of african american descent. I just put a relax in my hair August 16th of this year. I have always wanted to go natural. I never thought that I could manage a natural hairstyle. I have been doing research on two strand/three strand natural hair twists. I am very interested in that hairstyles. I was wondering what would I need to maintain that hairstyle daily. Should I do it myself or seek professional help. Can i do it with the relaxer in my hair. If not then how long do I wait before I can try this hairstyle. When I relax my hair it gets extremely flat. No curls at all and I wrap my hair every night so I have decided I am through with european hairstyle I really want to go all natural. What type of products (pomade, oil sheen, etc) would I need for this style. I have watch tutorial videos on the twisting so I believe I could do it but with it being my first time going all natural and not quite sure what to do shouldn't I go ask a professional first. I have really strong thick hair and when I put the relaxer in there it makes it soft and straight but I can't do anything with it but put it in a ponytail which breaks my hair off. So what should I really do?

  2. Chop it all off

  3. You really should have asked this question before you relaxed your hair. now all you can do is wait it out for about six month, if you're relatively healthy you should have a good bit of new growth by then. Or you can cut it all off and start fresh :) Make sure your ponytail holder is not too tight.

  4. hey Jess,

okay first thing first, no more relaxing if you want to go natural, since you are in the transitioning stage I would go to a professional, now you have two options, you can go to a braider to get twist, micros and cornrolls to put in your hair so that the relaxer can grow out or you can go to a beautician who specializes in natural hair. Although natural hairstyles are very beautiful they still require the same maintenance that relax hair needs. You  have to also remember to be VERY patient as this process does not happen over night, also  it takes time to get use to seeing yourself in your natural state...so continue doing alot of research because learning about your natural hair upkeep is a learning process....also check out these sites, also remember that all hair products are not equal and you really have to take the time to see what works for you
