So i'm going to Cancun 5/3-5/11. I'm 24 going with the gf (22). We'll most likely do casual things most of the time, hang out at the beach, a nice dinner or two, hit up a couple of bars/clubs. See the ruins, Dolphin Swim, shop etc. Here's my packing list so far, am I missing anything? anything I should leave at home?

- toiletries, passport, money, wallet, watch, laptop, underwear, t shirts, cargo shorts, board shorts/swim trunks, biodegradable sunblock (for the dolphin swim), socks, short sleeve button shirt, long sleeve button shirt, polo shirt, khaki, flip flops/zories/sandals, walking/running sneakers, dressier shoes, camera, under water camera, cigars, jeans, tooth brush. I think I covered everything, but I always end up missing a thing or two, or over packing some things..Anyway thanks a bunch.

  1. Make sure you contact your bank before you go and let them know you will be out of the country.  They can make note of it on your account so you can use your debit/atm card in Mexico without any problems.  I have a girlfriend who could not use her debit card.  The bank thought it was suspicious activity and denied the charges.  Better to be safe!

  2. Your list sounds great. Plenty of sunscreen and don't forget the hat. Something to read, music to listen to on the beach?

I would leave the laptop home. Most room safes are not that big to stow your laptop. I don't leave any valuables out in view when I travel.

Have a great time. Enjoy that dolphin swim)

p.s. there is an old saying pack half the clothes and twice the amount of money. lol.

  3. Leave the underwear at home, haha just kidding. Seriously your list looks pretty complete. I might add a waterproof container (don't worry you can pick one up in Cancun if need be) and something to protect against Sea Lice (baby jellyfish). The product to buy is known as Safe Sea and is only available online, try amazon:

You may also benefit by having a travel guide with you, visit this list and find the People's Choice Guide to Cancun:

Other than that, it sounds like you are good to go,

  4. Hat, sunglasses, Aloe lotion, extra pair of sandals,

    f***y pack,Spanish-English dictionary, water purification

tablets, mosquito netting, antacid tablets and lots of

    extra toilet paper !

  5. You're going to be too busy having fun to need your laptop--it's just something else for you to carry through the airport.  Cigars???  Buy those there because there is no tax on tabacco products.  Be sure to pack some imodium and lip balm with spf 15 or higher or you won't be any fun at all!  If you forget anything you can always take the bus or a taxi to a drug store--they are everywhere.  Speaking of Taxi's--if you have to take one be sure to agree on a price BEFORE you get in their car!  Have a great time and don't do ANYTHING that might get you thrown in jail!!!

P.S. As far as cash goes...take plenty of small bills--one's and fives for shopping and tipping.

  6. Just make sure you have all toiletries, shampoo, etc needed and any credit cards you may need for emergencies.  You can also consider getting a Mexico to US phone card before you leave as tourist stores they will be more expensive.  My cell phone worked in Cancun so yours may.

  7. Leave the laptop home...you're supposed to be on vacation...hint, hint...and you can buy cigars here...nice Cuban ones...leave your long sleeve shirt and jeans home too...too hot here for that...unless that is what you are planning on wearing back home.

I must say you certainly want to get it right...

  8. You can buy anything you need down there!

p.s. you did miss bug spray.
