What am i supposed to do? I found my cat dead today?

Question

She was missing for about 3 days and i went outside today to do some cleaning up and i looked under the back porch and she was laying there. i got closer and said "kitty kitty" and i noticed she wasn't breathing. My boyfriend and i buried her in a box with her favorite mouse toy. it was so sad we both cried. now i don't know what do to, if we should get another one or not.. i feel like i didn't give her enough loving and i wonder if she was scared or lonely or hurting when she went under the porch.. i just wish i could go back to last week and be with her again

It wasn't your fault, death is a natural thing that will happen to every living being. If you want to get over the pain you can buy a new animal, cat or dog. I think you did the right thing.

Allow yourselef to grieve the old one and remember it. Then when you feel a little better get a new one.

Most cats, when they foresee their death (like if they are sick) hide somewhere to die. I had a cat who died under the bushes in front of my house.

Cats are independent creatures. You probably gave him all the time & attention he needed.

Get another one when you are ready.

don't punish yourself, I'm welling up just reading this you were not to know , shes not in pain anymore even if she was we would all love to turn back the clock sometimes but whats meant to be is final and theres nothing you can do about it hold off for now and grieve for kitty then when the dust has settled then decide,  we would all be great in hindsight!!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty. I'm sure you gave her enough love... cats are naturally curious and wonder around for their own reasons. Who knows why she went under the porch? But if she got under there on her own, she could have gotten out on her own.

My rule of thumb about getting a new pet is: ask yourself why you want to get a cat. If it is because you miss your old cat, then now is not the right time. If it is because you miss have a cat in general, then it might be time to start looking.

allow yourself to grieve for this one.  it is common for people to feel guilt about certain things after a loved one's passing.  when you are ready you should adopt another cat, and if you honestly feel that you did not do enough for this one then promise yourself that you will do more for the next.

Well when I lose a pet, I give it at least a couple months before I get another one. That's what I don't like about animals, they die and it's sad lol. If you want another cat you should get one but maybe wait a while? If you like having cats then you should get one but give it a little time to get used to the fact that your old one will not be there anymore, it will be a new cat that you don't know.

thats sad i would give u a hug if i could but u should really consider getting another cat because nothing lasts forever but if u think ur ready again go ahead. dont tell urself that im sure ur cat enjoyed its life and every1 has those same regrets about not loving enough and ur cats death wasnt ur fault so just dont depress urself with those thoughts

I am sorry, it is hard to lose a friend.  Give everyone time to grieve and then go to the shelter (take Abby) and find a new friend - not a replacement.

I almost lost my cat but it came back after 6 hours. The thing i would do is probably get a new cat (not to sound mean) my reasoning behind it is that when you change the color of your room you dont remember what the last color was. But it might be different with a living thing than just a color. My best guess would be go to a pet shop and just hang around in the cats part and see if you feel attached to any ones.

Don't look back, but always remember the good times. If you get a new kitty, it's because you need a new kitty, not a replacement. If you want a replacement you will be disappointed, as all kits are unique! My home was toooo quiet with no animals to welcome me home, This is what decided me. You may like the peace and quiet for a few weeks, but once a cat-lover, always a cat-lover. Have a long holiday with no kennel fees and see what you think afterwards. Purrrrrr XX
