  1. What christopher said but also always practise small little exersices for picking or fingering.

Practise! And listen to bands that play good music, If yo dont have to will and motivation to carry on practising you wont make it.  So if your bored with your guitar just streniously play your exersices and scales because one day youl be exited in guitar again then you used your time to learn the basics.

  2. well, sounds like this won't be hard for you at all. take all your music theory you've learned from composing/viola/drums and transfer it into guitar. you need to learn scales and chords. buy a chord chart and just sit down and play. let your fingers do the talking. good luck. :)

  3. Very quickly...learn the basic chords, AND at least 3-4 different ways to play each chord.

         Learn different rhythm strumming patterns.

Learn the "pentatonic" scale...the basic starting blocks for blues and solo lead guitar work.

Learn dynamics...realize you can change the "feel" of a song by how hard or softly you play the guitar.

Do NOT learn the chords of a song...start a basic rhythm guitar strum and keep that same volume, tone, and strum pattern going from beginning to end.  ( 9 out of 10 You tube videos are guilty of this...once you've heard the person play 10 seconds on guitar, you know you've heard the same guitar for the whole song...very boring)

Beginners are notorious for this.  they don't realize you can change the song by playing closer to the bridge, varying your strumming, varying your volume, using a flatpick or pick and fingers (hybrid) or finger picking, and a multitude of other ways.

Break up the song..use dynamics...be original..discover your own voice on guitar.

         Best of luck!

  4. the basics.....hammer ons, pull offs, power chords, thrills, vibratos, string bending, alternate picking...etc.

  5. Um, probably the basics!

  6. the basics is the best thing imo

  7. The guitar you own has nothing to do with your desire to be a great guitarist. Consider taking lessons and learning the scales and modes,  invert chords, transpose, and write new work. These will help you become the good player you hope to become. Beyond understanding the fundamentals you will need to understand your role in an ensemble. Playing at the right volume for the space you perform in, the group you play with, the ability to be flexible and follow your vision. Practice, practice, practice. If you are excited to practice on a friday night you know you are on the right track.  Dont expect anything to come easy.

  8. Regardless of what type of guitar you own and play If you want to "grow" or "develope" your skills as a musician you should learn how to read music.

That will be the best avenue to move your level of

    musicianship way up.

One method that have received good reviews by

    guitar musicians is:

Music Reading For Guitar - The Complete Method

by David Oakes  published by Hal Leonard

Many of my guitarist friends who were depending on Tabs for playing tell me that this method opened a new "world" for them as well as more opportunities to play "new to them" other musical styles.

    I hope this help

Have a Good Time with your guitar.

  9. i just wanted to say that you don't necessarily have to take lessons and learn all this crazy picking sht and a million chords in order to be good..for me its all about heart i play and i never had a single guitar lesson in my life. for me when i started it was all about doing my own thing and sorta being different...as long as your fingers can move on that fretboard you'll be fine....but that doesn't mean if u play you'll sound good no matter what cuz ther's good guitarist and bad guitarists lol i hope you get what i'm trying to say.. good luck :)

    :)
