  1. Russia is the only country to do it, they used them as Snipers and Pilots mostly and when seriously short on manpower would use them however they could and they were short, it is estimated 20 million Russian's were killed in WWII and not by Stalin (he killed another 20 on his own). Women tend to have better hand and eye co-ordination and hence make good pilots or operators of machines that require such skills. As for the ground, they did horrible but so did the men until the end of the war.

Israel never actually had women on the front lines, when they got invaded women got caught up in the fighting and hence that is where some of the "myth" about the Israelis using women in an offensive manner comes from. They are still in the military and often act as instructors to the men but they have not ever been used intentionally as front line troops.

Some guerrilla groups have used women in combat roles though, not so much our allies but Colombia, the PI, Vietnam, etc...are some examples.

  2. Philipines.

  3. Russia in WWI and WWII

    Israel

  4. Technically they are our ally.  But Russia used women as snipers and bomber pilots during WW2.  The name of the bomber group?  The night-witches.  The only bombed at night and would cut their engines before drifting into their targets.

  5. Israel!

As a matter of fact Dr. Ruth was a sniper.

  6. The USSR in WW2.

They had female pilots, infantry, snipers, artillery, the whole bit.  Unfortunately the Stalinists retained enough sexism to require them to be in mostly female units, but some served with men.

Female generals, too.  I saw an interview with one on TV once.  This sweet old lady tenderly held her great-grandson on her lap, twirling his hair around her fingers as she talked about her "boys and girls" shooting n***s.

She also waxed lyrical about how her unit had supported Marshal Zhukov when the Red Army, the only institution in Soviet society with the public stature to do it, got rid of the secret police head, the maniac Beria, when he wanted to take over after Stalin died.

    Inspiring.

Maybe it was the uniform, or the self confidence.  Or the thick black hair with the streak of white.  She was in her seventies at the time, and the hottest looking woman I've ever seen.
