Question:

What ammonia to use for fishless cycling?

I'm about to start a fishless cycle in my 30L aquarium.

The only ammonia I have been able to find is Cloudy Ammonia. (Homebrand from Safeway/Woolworths)

There are no ingredients listed on the bottle, but it bubbles and foams a bit when the bottle is shaken.

It this ammonia safe to use, and if not what kid is and where can I find it?

Ta :-)

  1. I never heard of cloudy ammonia? I've read you can use liquid ammonia. Sorry I dont know if that is the same thing.

But you can also use raw cocktail shrimp, or just feed your tank like there were fish in it.

    Hope this helps

  2. just use fishfood it safer

  3. Foamy ammonia won't work. You do need the clear pure household ammonia. Try hardware stores instead, they're more likely to have it than supermarkets.

You can use fish food/raw shrimp, pure ammonia is more straight forward and a little quicker though.
