My boyfriend wants to travel Europe beginning of next year. How much money is a good amount to start off with and in case of emergencies? Any good advice would be appreciated as neither of us have ever been travelling before. Also, if anyone know of the UN's 'Whoofing' scheme, please advise? Is it safe? Are the people you stay with completely checked i.e; criminal records beforehand? Thank you in advance.

  1. Depends on what you want to do.

For instance, travelling by bicycle would be much cheaper than travelling by Rolls Royce.

Having a budget of £2000 means you could do more than with a budget of £1000.

    Its up to you really.

  2. I have traveled europe... I was away for 9months (i went from england) and i didnt work at all while i was away... I stayed in hostels, cheap hotels and camped alot (on "common ground" so there was no charge).... I spent around £1200 a month on travel, accomodation, food and beer etc.... and i was living comfortably on that amount of money... You could do it for £700 a month if you dont mind using trains to get between countries instead of planes!

If you say where you are planning to visit / how you plan to travel and for how long maybe somebody/i could give you a better idea of how much money you will need!

  3. how many countries do you want to visit?

there are some deals on train fares

    if you want to cycle..

you can get bikes in Leuven, Belgium for about €35 for a year...

    probably cheaper other places too.

  4. we went for a month and took £1500, it was enough
