  1. With all of the pontification in Y!A about how wonderful solar energy is and how its the immediate solution to global warming and high gasoline costs, it really says something that nobody has responded with any kind of an answer to this question.

    So I'll at least take a crack at it.  The solar constant is about 1000 watts per square meter, and they say PV cells are only about 10% efficient now.  So with a square meter being 10,000 square centimeters thats works out at (1000 watts  / 10,000) x 10% or .01 watts per square centimeter.  (10 milliwatts)  And thats on a good day.
