I know that young Green spotted pufferfish can live in freshwater, but what concentration of brackish water do i need for when they get older?

and i've heard many different things as far as plastic plants, snails, that they do need a 30 gallon tank, and so on.

if i could get some hard facts, that would be very much appreciated.

as well as a true statement about gray bellies and what staying at the bottom of the tank means. cold/warm water?

im fairly knowledgeable with fish, i grew up with them but most were freshwater. green spotted pufferfish are a new challenge.

  1. .....1.005 to 1.008 specific gravity using sea salt (use a hydrometer)

    ....75F to 80F

....they love to eat snails and blood worms, but do not overfeed

...over feeding can cause increasing ammonia, nitrite, as well as, nitrates

.....nitrates are the the chief culprit of 'greyish-type bellies' in puffers (nitrAtes @ 20-40ppm are lethal range for GSP)

....use live plants, as the plants also absorb ammonia and nitrates as food, releasing CO2 that, in turn, nourishes the nitrifying bacteria in the water filter

.....so using live plants effectively provides a nice buffer against spiking of either ammonia and/or nitrAtes by absorbing it as food

  2. you need to put half a teaspoon of aquarium salt per gallon so incase you have a size 10 tank it's two and a half teaspoons.
