when a rectangular tank is 7/5 full of water it contains 140 litres of water. Find the amount of water the tank contains when it is 2/3 full.

  1. This must be a nearly trick question. a tank the can hold 7/5 full must be 'defined' to be full when it can still hold more water... as when there is a full mark that is not at the top.

    2/3 full would be 2/3 * 5/7 * 140 litres, or  1400 / 21 litres.


  2. The question makes no sense.  If it were filled to 7/5 of capacity, it would be overflowing.

    in which case you'd have  140*1.4*2/3 = 130.666667

  4. 140 litres divided by 7 = 20

    20 times 5 (100% full) = 100 litres

    2/3 of 100...

    66 1/3 litres...

    yes, a tank 7/5 full may be impossible, but this sounds more like a mathletes type of question anyways...
