  1. stay away form hifonics....inefficient, power hunger amps that produce dirty power.

check out these sites for amps:

  2. Go with which ever amp you like best.  But, before you install it, make sure you get a high output alternator, a quality battery and upgrade the wiring under your hood ... the big three.

  3. If you were to get a fully loaded BTL, grabbing a pair of Sundown 1500D's and strapping them, that would be a serious single sub set up, there are a number of people running that set up with great success.  But first take steps to make sure what happened to the JL amp does not happen to your next amp or amps.

Also if you are going to step up to a much higher power system and possibly less regulated amplifiers, you are going to need to upgrade your electrical system to support the increased load.  Be it an improved battery or second battery, the BIG3, larger gage power and ground wire.

But please, don't buy a louder set up to project your music out on to other people and their personal space.  That will only further the negative reputation car audio has grown to have.  It is irresponsible and disrespectful.  If you want that level of output, compete in SPL or bassrace competitions where it is completely fine to do so.

  4. with the options for a daily setup, i would go with the XXV higher-end series from hifonics. they are more reliable than the BXi without breaking the bank to fully power that subwoofer.

with no options, the BTL can take around 2000 watts rms at least to make it sound good. with more options added, the sub can take much more power... but the signal and electric current needs to be good.

just remember that with the extra options, the subwoofer can handle more power. also, if you will be running just one sub, get it with the dual 2 ohm voice coils so it can be wired down to a 1 ohm load.

i currently got some running 3200 watts rms but they do require alot of space... and custom made ported box is a MUST. for the box, around 28-33Hz should be good to have the 18 sound very loud with some good sound quality.. the btl series does not have alot of sound quality, is mailny for spl..

if you just want to be loud and loose all the sq while gaining a few more db's at the term lab, the go with a tuning freq. of 34-40Hz.

other things to consider is using only 1/0 gauge power wire through out the installation, do the big3 too, upgrade to a H.O. Alternator, and to add a good 2nd battery.

personally, i like to use 8 gauge cables for subwoofers when they handle more than 1200 watts rms. it no only makes it look good, but allows better current flow.
