  1. Try to match the RMS with the subs and the amp. Also note RMS power/sub when wired in series or parallel. For instance, if your amp outputs x RMS/sub in series and 2x RMS/sub in parallel, note that so you do not blow your subs.

  3. Without question, Always go by the RMS. The peak power is irrelevant, at least in overrated subs. You can use some of the range between the rms and the peak, but avoid using too much unless you know they are reliable subs.

When matching an amp to a sub, or subs, pair up the max of the amp to the combined rms of the subs.

If your subs are distorting, it will be for a reason.

..Check the settings on the amp. Make sure they are not up too high in the wrong areas.

..It may also distort if the amp is overrated, and you are trying to use too much from it. Having the settings up too high on an overrated amp can also damage the subs.

..Also, the obvious. The Subs. If the subs are distorting, you may just want to invest in new ones.

  4. you match rms of the sub to the rms of the amp. never ever go off the peak #
