I had surgery done on my back a few weeks ago and I'm trying to find the name of the drug so I can request it the next time I have any surgery done. It is given after surgery as an analgesic, and is not morphine. I experienced absolutely no pain with it. All I can remember is that it is 80x more potent than morphine and is an opiod also.

  1. It was probably either Demerol or Dilaudid. It might have also been Fentanyl. Ask your doctor next time you see them, it will be in your chart. Odds are that if you use the same doctor for surgery, th will use the same pain med after the next surgery.

  2. I am a recovery room nurse, so I can tell you what I give every day... that is Fentanyl. It is 80-100x more potent than morphine. It is commonly given postoperatively but only in the recovery room. It is also common in a patch form for cancer patients. You wouldn't need to ask for it when you have surgery again, as it is one of the most narcotics used

  3. Request a copy of your surgical medical records and you can find out.
