  1. A parody is a play or story that takes something serious and pokes fun at it.  A good example is one of the Austen Power movies.  It takes the older spy movies, and exaggerates certain things (such as Austen's s*x appeal), while at the same time taking the suspension of belief from the original films and questioning it.  (If you want a literary example, look up Voltaire's Candide.  It's fairly short, but some history is necessary to understand it.  Wikipedia can help!)

    Most parodies use a generous helping of irony and sarcasm.
