  1. hi,

    there is 2 answers:

    1) it what the area that is now roughly Somalia was called before independance - there was a British Somaliland & and Italian Somaliland.

    2) it a state, the Republic of Somaliland that is not internationally recognized.  It encompasses the north of what is Somalia, covering roughly the same area as British Somaliland did.  It was formed in 1991, after the collapse of central authority of Somalia when the dictator Siad Barre was overthrow.  Since 1991 their has been no effective government, and most of the time no government at all in Somalia, so the people in the north set up their own state that works well as a state, a lot better than Somalia as a whole.  However the world will not recognize it, even though it has been successful, as this would mean a splitting of the nation of Somalia.

  2. You know where Somalia used to be, its a part of that, officially its not a country its kind of a theifdom run by warlords.

  3. this is a region of somalia (africa)... somaliland people wants the  independence against somalia

  4. There's always Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somaliland

To cut a long story short, Somaliland is the northern region of Somalia. That's on the Horn of Africa (the eastern "tip" of the continent)

Practically, Somaliland has asserted its independence as a state (1991), and has established its own government, but is not yet internationally recognized.

  5. I think somaliland is in the north and hargesa (sp) is down south or maybe the other way round, but I think it is kind of like england, in terms of areas like manchester and london.
