Question:

What angle and width should my bindings be on my snowboard?

Hey,

I have a 140 lib tech board. I am 170 cm or 5 foot 6. I am a pretty intermediate rider i ride the whole mountain and can do basic rails and aerial tricks etc. My bindings are pretty basic, Dura-Tech i think the brand is. I really just want a basic set up that most riders of my ability would use. I know it varies but what would a standard set up be? What width should my bindings be? Also what angles should they be at?

Any advice would be very helpful :-)

Also I am about 50 kg - 110 lbs.

I just want a rough idea of a good binding width and angles.

I was told that +15 on the front and -3 on the back could be a good set up for me.

Thanks again.

  1. Yes 15, -3 is a good standard set of angles that works for most people. However, if you like to ride rails and hit the jumps as well, I would recommend "ducking" out your stance a bit. Maybe something like a 15, -9 or even just a 15, -6 could make a big difference. By ducking out your stance a bit you get way more options when freestyle riding as it will make it easier to ride switch and to spin. If you are more of an all-mountain freestyle rider I would try 15, -6. But then again, a lot has to do with personal preference as well. Try our different things and find out what you like. As for width, that also depends on your style of riding and what feels comfortable for you. If you are more into park riding you might want to try a slightly wider stance.. maybe something like 23"  or 23.5" for your size. If you like to ride the mountain a lot, i would go with something around 21.5" to 22.5". Again, just try different settings and figure out what works for you. hope that answers your question.

  2. The width should be the same as a comfortable "athletic stance" - jump up and land with your knees slightly bent - that is your natural athletic stance. Try it several times and measure it each time - that is a good starting place for the width. If your width doesn't match any holes exactly, go wider to the next hole. The front and back don't have to be the same number of holes from the center of the board, if not then use the rear holes back further from the center.

Angles are mostly personal preference, but for learning I would suggest +12 or +9 (front) / +3 or 0 (rear). Anything with a negative angle on the back foot is a "duck" stance. The "duck" stance (like +12 / -6) is better for freestyle but I find that people have a hard time learning basic turns with both feet turned out. You can always change to duck if you want later after you know how to ride.

    Good Luck
