My budget is $200, I want a small cuddly pet that does not stink, does not need a lot of maintenance and live for about 5 years and up. No allergies, I have 2 fish and a cat, and no rodents allowed in the house. What animal is right for me?

  1. There isn't really anything you can get that cheap that lives longer than 5 years unless you get a rabbit.  And EVERY animal requires maintenance.

  2. Another cat. That way it can keep the one you have company.

  3. Try a stuffed animal they don't need any maintenance

  4. I'm thinking a pet rock, honestly.

I would suggest dogs but they are high maintenance and way more then $200.

I would say rabbit but if your parents are making the rules they would probably say that a rabbit is classified as a rodent.

    Clearly not ferrets.

Another cat would be ok but sometimes the vet bills can go over $200.

The only thing I could really tell you is like a lovebird or a dove or a smaller less expensive bird like that but even then they can get loud, expensive and some of them are high maintenance.

Go to a pet expo or to a pet store(would not recommend buying from one however) and see which animal is right for you and make sure that your parents don't mind it either, I see so many animals properly uncared for because the parents just don't care.

Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help but its the hard truth.

    these do not smell..

I was going to say a rabbit - they are not rodents either...

  6. I'm sorry to say, but as someone who works in a vet clinic and is a vet student, there is nothing out there to meet your needs.  If you want the pet to live over 5 years, then pocket pets are out of the question.  And with a budget of $200, you shouldn't get anything bigger than that because you don't have enough money.

Even though you might be able to get the pet for that amount of money, you really owe it to the animal to have money prepared for vet bills.  It really isn't fair to take an animal into your life if you aren't prepared to spend $400-$500 to fix a broken leg, urinary obstruction, or any other medical problems that might come up.

If you have a $200 budget, my guess is that you're in a financial bind already.  My suggestion would be to not get another pet, and save the $200 for possible vet expenses for your cat.

  7. I would say a rabbit; also possibly a guinea pig

  8. A potbelly pig.
